1. John Woodnutt
Date of Birth: 3rd March 1924
Date of Death: 2nd January 2006

John Woodnutt, a veteran British actor, played alter-egos Merlin and Mogdred in the first four series of Knightmare. Aside from Hugo Myatt, he was the only original actor who did not leave the show after the second series.

Many Knightmare fans were saddened to hear of the death of John Woodnutt, at the age of 81, in January 2006. The Eye Shield fanzine published a tribute to John Woodnutt's work, written by reader Chris Stallard, in March 2006.

John Woodnutt appeared in many television shows as well as Knightmare, including The Sweeney, Jeeves and Wooster, Doctor Who, and a CITV comedy-drama about a hyper-intelligent parrot entitled Harry's Mad.

John Woodnutt's last role was as Friar Peter (who died very early in the story) in Dragonheart II: A New Beginning, which was made in 2000.
